The BRITISH CARAVANNERS CLUB, SCOTLAND. covers of the whole of Scotland, and as such is unique amongst BCC areas in that it represents a complete country. We try to arrange meets near to the geographical centre of our main membership to allow as many members as possible to attend each meet.



 


SCOTLAND AREA  2012


Notice is hereby given that the AGM Scottish Area will be held on Saturday 24th March at 3pm at St Mary’s Episcopal Church Hall, Dalmahoy, Kirknewton, EH27 8EB. Notice of motions and nominations for committee must be sent to the Secretary Ms M Macdonald, 2 Snowberry Field, Thankerton, Biggar ML12 6RJ by 24th January 2012.  Membership cards must be shown. Please follow local and BCC signs.

From Edinburgh
Travelling west from Edinburgh take the city by-pass and then take the A71. Approximately two miles after the Heriot Watt UniversityCampus, turn left at the Dalmahoy Marriott Hotel /Country Club.
From Livingston
Travelling east from Livingston on the A71, the church is approximately four miles on from East Calder. Follow the signs for the hotel as above.

sailing vessel still afloat in the UK.

February 26th         

Join Glasgow DA for a Winter Walk at Colzium Lennox estate Kilsyth.              See their Out & About entry.                                                                  The historic Colzium Lennox estate surrounds the mansion house of Colzium and was gifted to the people of Kilsyth by W. Mackay Lennox in 1937. The estate has many features of interest, including a walled garden with an excellent display of conifers and rare plants. Nearby is a 17th Century ice-house and the ruins of the 15th Century Colzium Castle. Battle of Kilsyth (1645). At the battle General Baillie's army of Scottish Covenanters was put to the sword by Royalist forces under the command of the Marquis of Montrose. Some 6,000 persons were either slain on the battlefield or died later from their wounds.

See YBSB 65/40 for directions. Hook-ups available, booking required. Own sanitation essential.  AGM Saturday 24th (see notice) followed by a meal at the nearby Ratho Park Crown Carvery then a Social in the church hall.

There is a Park & Ride nearby for a visit to Edinburgh. The Falkirk Wheel is also an interesting place to visit. (Boat trips may be available, Cafe & Visitor Centre). The McArthur Glen Outlet is a great place for pleasant indoor shopping with cinemas and plenty of eating places. If you like walking you can walk from the site along the path towards Almondell Country Park. Fees £8.00 pun inc hook up.

Tour the East Neuk of Fife. From the  site entrance take the bus to the home of golf at St Andrews. Visit Dundee and see the ship “Discovery” which was built for Captain Scott’s expedition in 1901to the South Pole.

May 31st - 24th June    Temporary Holiday Site - Peebles MR 73/265403

BCC Scotland looks forward to welcoming you at Kerfield Farm, Peebles, only half a mile walk into town, and on the bus route to Edinburgh and Galashiels. For 2012 we have extended our meet a further week to include the Peebles Beltane Festival. The festival will commence on Sun 17th June with the inaugural service at the Cross Kirk. Wed 20th will see the Cornet Installation and Riding of the Marches, an event not to be missed. On Sat 23rd there will be the Crowning Ceremony and the Grand Procession and Retreat. There will also be other events during the week.

Follow the BCC Scotland signs. Site on the right 0.5 mile from roundabout on A72 Peebles to Innerleithen road. All traffic to approach from Peebles, no turn in from the South.  Flat Site. Own sanitation essential. Fees £6.50 per unit night, extra adults £1 per night. New for 2012 - Stay for 7 consecutive nights and only pay for 6. June 29th - July 9th              Temporary Holiday Site

On the A70. From Ayr travel through Coylton village, approx ¾ mile past the village turn right at the sign for the fishery. From the A74 take the A70 Ayr Road. At Douglas continue 28 miles. The site is on the left. Follow the BCC Scotland signs. Restaurant on site overlooking two well stocked fishing lochans. Tickets for fishing available from the office. June 29th -  July 15th           Temporary Holiday Site

                                                   Muir of Ord,  Inverness IV6 7RS

Leave A9 at Torre roundabout going west on A832.  Turn left onto B9169 before Muir of Ord.  Site on Right.  Watch for BCC Scotland signs. Excellent venue for touring the north of Scotland and the West Highlands. Visit the Isle of Skye. Take a day trip from Inverness to Orkney and see the Italian Chapel and Skara Brae. Watch the dolphins in the Moray Firth. Red kites can be seen flying over the site. Visit their feeding station nearby. Reelig Glen is also near with spectacular trees, many of them amongst the tallest in the UK at over 200 feet. Moniack Winery is the home of some fine Highland wines made with local produce. South from Stranraer on A716 till junction with B7084(A75) follow signs for Sandhead.  Our holiday site at Sandhead is only 500 metres from a sandy beach, and also provides a perfect base from which to explore the Mull of Galloway and the SW corner of Scotland.  Ideal for touring Dumfries & Galloway and Wigtownshire.  Day trips by ferry to Ireland from Stranraer and Cairnryan.  The start point of the Southern Upland Way is close by.  Own sanitation essential.  Booking not necesary. £6 per unit night. July 28th - Aug 6th                  Temporary Holiday Site

A new site for 2012.Site on the playing fields adjacent to the Village Hall in the centre of the village. From the south leave the M6 at junction 44 and take the A7, continue approx. 11 miles then turn right onto B6357. From the north leave the A74(M) at junction 22, then take the A6071 to join the A7 turning left at the T junction. The Village of Canonbie is situated approximately two miles inside the Scottish Border alongside the main A7 trunk road, and scenic route to Edinburgh.  Follow BCC Scotland signs. £7.50 pupn, extra adults £1 pun.

Canonbie lies within the area which was known as the Debateable Land, a great tract of land which was under the jurisdiction of neither the Scots nor the English which became a refuge for all the outlaws and undesirables in the region. The Armstrong Clan had the reputation of being the wildest of all the riding families on both sides of the Border. Whilst they dominated the Scottish side the Forsters and Grahams held sway on the English side.

Site off A699 Kelso-Selkirk road. Do not go into Kelso centre. From Edinburgh & Coldstream rds foll Hawick signs to top of hill, then take A699 St Boswells., Toilets & Showers avail. Fac for disabled.  Short walk into Kelso shops. Buses to border towns.  Visit Abbeys and Stately homes, Seabirds at St Abbs. Good walking & cycling country. £8.00pun. Overton Farm, Crossford, Carluke, Lanarkshire, ML8 5QF.  Leave M74 at junction 8. Take A71 dir Wishaw. At Garrion Bridge roundabout take A72 dir Lanark. Site on left two miles from roundabout. Route from Lanark not recommended for caravans and larger motorhomes Situated in the beautiful Clyde Valley not far from the world heritage site of New Lanark.  Toilets and farm shop on site.  Buses pass site entry. Car boot sale in adjacent field on Sundays.  Good for touring Southern Scotland and visiting Glasgow with its world class museums and shopping.
